Niel Gillon & Paddy Fanning interview

Neil Gillon is a contract farmer who has spent most of his life in South West Scotland and now lives in South Ayrshire with his wife, Wendy. Looking after big numbers of sheep in such rugged conditions means Neil has to rely heavily on his dogs: They need to be fit, have plenty of stamina and able to do a full day’s work. Neil acknowledges that these types of dogs are not your ‘typical’ ‘Saturday dogs’ and so he has to spend time schooling them before going to the trials. Although Neil has worked with sheep for over 30 years he has not long come back into trialling (last 8 years) but has already achieved some great success when winning the Scottish National with his dog, Sweep (known as Shweep) in 2016.
